070115 Nabadwīp—Mahāprabhu’s Sannyās Day

Different kind of people, different kind of mentality, different kinds of society. Kṛṣṇa divided within three everything—sattva, raja, tama. Everything. Higher, middle and lower. Anyhow, Guru Mahārāj said some famous comment, “To err is human.” And everyone wants to be full with knowledge, with all quality and qualification. Everyone wants to be. But in the middle most and ugly obstacle is that pratiṣṭha. And pratiṣṭha not giving us proper place. That is difficulty. Everyone want some pratiṣṭha. Our Ṣaḍ-Goswāmī, they extremely avoid it but still it is running behind them. Mādhavendra Purī, Gopāl given kṣīr prasāda to Mādhavendra Purī as His desire, Gopīnāth in Remuṇa. And when he, it was everyone heard, “Gopāl wants to give, Gopāl already given kṣīr prasāda to Mādhavendra Purī.” And pratiṣṭha also run behind Mādhavendra Purī.

pratiṣṭhāra bhaye purī gelā palāñā
kṛṣṇa-preme pratiṣṭhā chale saṅge gaḍāñā
(Śrī Chaitanya-charitāmṛta: Madhya-līlā, 4.147)

Purī Goswāmī, when understand that ‘fame coming to attack me’ and he ran away in the night way to Purī. But when he went there he have seen everyone knows that news. But it was helpful for him to collect the chandan, Malayajā-chandana for Gopāl. 

Anyhow, in the time of Sad Goswāmī that’s also play of pratistha was not little. We need to avoid that. Kanak, kamini, pratistha. Prabhupād Saraswatī Ṭhākur also
abused so much pratistha. And that pratistha is jader-pratistha, material fame. But you are Vaishnav Das, you are Kṛṣṇa Das, you are servitor of Lord — that kind of pratistha is
so glorious for everyone. If will come, humbly they will worship from far that
pratistha.

It was difficult to say [for] Kaviraj Goswāmī, he have got *much* pratistha,
but he all pratistha given to Nityananda Prabhu. That was speciality of Kaviraj
Goswāmī. He is qualified but he cannot say that “I am qualified.” Also necessary
to *say,* “I am qualified,” and there he all credit given to Nityananda Prabhu,
and said. That is the procedure.

Narayan is the Enjoyer with Laksmi, kanak. And Kṛṣṇa — Enjoyer with the
kamini. And pratistha — that we will give, always offer to Gurudev. Never we
will try to enjoy with pratistha.

Everything in our very near existing, everything knowledge–transcendental
advice– very near to us, but we are not realising that. We have no time to
realise that. That is difficulty for us. If we will think that time is very
short for our upliftment… to try for our upliftment, that time is very short,
then we cannot lose one moment. But we heard many thing, we know it, but our mind not be engaged with that.

In the time of Goswāmī: Śrī Rupa, Sanatan, Bhatta Raghunath, Śrī Jiva, Gopal
Bhatta, Dasa Raghunath, and more strong and famous Goswāmī junior was Śrīla Jiva
Goswāmī. Senior is Sanatan Goswāmī, Gopal Bhatta Goswāmī, and middle is Rupa Goswāmī, etc. And junior Śrīla Jiva Goswāmī. But when Jiva Goswāmī have got senior position, all gone, disappear. Jiva Goswāmī have got senior position in the society, that time also fighting with pratistha. We can see Hridayananda, Syamananda, and Jiva Goswāmī. Specially Hridayananda call one meeting, for pratistha [chuckles]. Then pratistha not for up-to-date situation, it is from long time. Even Kṛṣṇa, when everyone knows Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme, as a king or anything, but He is Supreme, fighter or anything. In the time of Kṛṣṇa, that time also one man — one king — he declared, “I am Vasudev. I am Kṛṣṇa. And I am the ruler of whole kings, kingdom.” Then pratistha unavoidable, but our duty is avoid, and give honour to Guru-Vaishnav, and be humble and tolerant.

Sri Chaitanya Mahāprabhu, as a Man he was very, very intelligent, and super. If we not consider He is Kṛṣṇa Himself, but as a Man His brain is not poor, enriched with all the quality and qualification. And sometimes I[‘m] surprised when I think — Mahāprabhu talked with big-big scholar, big-big pundit, highly qualified personalities, but He is a teacher of vyakarana. Actually, his literary education as a teacher of vyakarana. He is teaching scholar vyakarana. And Digvijayi Pundit, (?) who is the super intelligent pundit, qualified pundit, and who demolished the ego of pundit society, when *he* come to Nabadwip and he told, “You know grammar, maybe, of Sanskrit, but which way You will understand my slokas what I recite now, prayer for Ganges?”

And Mahāprabhu humbly told, “Yes, yes, I am a teacher of vyakarana, I am a teacher of Sanskrit grammar, but everything I heard like you all, then through that knowledge I am seeing here is this, this, this fault.” Like that.

And when Digvijayi said, “No, no one fault is there, all is quality, highest quality ornament in that sloka.” And Mahāprabhu said, “No, something is there. You try to consider it.”

And Digvijayi was very angry. But I am thinking: that Digvijayi Pundit lastly within half an hour, he [was] defeated by Nimai Pundit;

Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya defeated by Nimai Pundit; Prakasananda Saraswatī defeated by Nimai pundit when Mahāprabhu taken sannyas and become Śrī Chaitanyadev. And not only that — in South India, Mahāprabhu went for preaching, but university quality, university qualification, He have only Sanskrit grammar teacher, shown that. But everyone is very exalted personality in the society, all is defeated by Chaitanyadev. And Chaitanyadev given, I[‘m] surprised — with my mundane knowledge I am thinking that, and I[‘m] surprised. Mahāprabhu told to Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya — Sarvabhauma not will be astonished. Surprise. It is the quality of Srimad Bhagavatam. It is quality of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Lord Kṛṣṇa attracting everyone. Not only conditioned souls, He is attracting the liberated souls. And highly qualified personality,

atmaramas ca munayo
nirgrantha apy urukrame
kurvanty ahaitukim bhaktim
ittham-bhuta-guno harih
SB, 1:7:10

This is the quality of Kṛṣṇa. He is attracting all, everything, because He is the emporium of all rasa; and we want that rasa, everyone — we want that — we are fighting for that, fighting for that ananda, enjoyment, ecstasy. Then

atmaramas ca munayo
nirgrantha apy urukrame
kurvanty ahaitukim bhaktim
ittham-bhuta-guno harih
SB, 1:7:10

This kind of quality always with Him. Surprise is that, He’s a literary… He is pundit of vyakarana, but telling this śloka to Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya as Srimad Bhagavatam sloka. That means whole Bhagavatam He read. Not only read, He conceived that, digest that, all the scripture digest, in Mahabharata, Srimad Bhagavatam, and all the scriptures. But that Mahāprabhu said finally, “Not necessary to go [laja?], puja, etc. etc. to do. Everything is nonsense thing.” And Bhaktivinod Ṭhākur told very clearly in Bengali:

prthivite yaha kichu dharma name cale
bhagavata kahe taha pari purn a chole

Srimad Bhagavatam telling everything is worst… In the name of religion what going on, what practicing everyone [in the] name of religion, all is worst.” Bhakti Vinod Ṭhākur said finally,

prthivite yaha kichu dharma name cale
bhagavata kahe taha pari purn a chole

Actually they are showing something and enjoying their own self with maya. And no other thing within there, ideal — no other ideal. Then, leave everything, be surrendered to Lord Kṛṣṇa and chant the hare Kṛṣṇa maha-mantra — this is the best, Mahāprabhu said. Then unhesitatingly, ki? not to hesitate to take advice of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. Because in the time of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu everyone is defeated, and summarily defeated. And we have seen, everyone is defeated by Śrīla Guru Mahārāj in the time of Śrīla Saraswatī Ṭhākur. And best quality we have got, an example in front of us. I[‘m] surprised to see, when Guru Mahārāj is telling very freely, and I am thinking, “Which way Guru Mahārāj have got this property?” It is my mundane realisation. But that is very honourable and valuable, I think so.

Anyhow, Mahāprabhu’s gift, golden gift, Śrīla Guru Mahārāj said, “Golden gift of Golden Lord.” This word. And many times [he] quoted the slokas,

suvarna-varno hemango
varangas chandanangadi
sannyasa-krc chamah santo
nistha-santi-parayanah
CC, Adi, 3:49

About Śrīman Mahāprabhu. Suvarna-varno hemango. “Suvarna” means gold, and “varna” means colour. Then, Golden Volcano of Divine Love, it’s come from Śrīla Guru Mahārāj, come out that ideal. We are surprised. But when we have got some feelings, some property… but side by side lifetime also gone…

ayur harati vai pumsam
udyann astam ca yann asau

Today is morning, first Magh-masah, first day of Magh-masah, yesterday one gone, sankranti. Sun rising, sun setting, and one by one days are passing from our life.

tasyarte yat-ksano nita
uttama-sloka-vartaya
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 2.3.17)

Necessary to spend that time for the service of Guru-vaishnav. This is all scripture’s advice is that, all saint and Vaishnav, all guru, and finally Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa said, “You follow that procedure as a devotion to Lord.” Hare Krishna.
